Post Doc in Software Ecosystems for Sustainable Development

Application deadline: 1 September 2022 at 23:59 CEST

The interdisciplinary project “SustAinable Irrigation Advisories for Mid-Himalayan Farmers using Smart Satellite Image Analytics” is are looking for a Post Doc candidate.

The project takes place in cooperation together with DHI GRASS and the Indian Institute of Technology Mandi (IIT Mandi). The project aims at developing sustainable irrigation advice for mid-Himalayan smallholder farmers by developing functionality for satellite image analysis-based irrigation advice – for application to the Himalayan region. To promote the economic viability and sustainability of such services, the project takes a software ecosystem (SECO) approach to support flexible interaction between relevant stakeholders.

We are looking for a candidate who could either strengthen (a) the design and implementation of the software infrastructure connecting farmers, satellite image analysis service, and possible 3rd parties supporting business models to be developed in the project, or (b) user-centered design of a mobile app delivering irrigation advice to Himalayan farmers. The successful candidate should be prepared to spend extended periods at the IIT Mandi, especially, if engaging with co-design with Himalayan farmers. Social skills are therefore important.

It is expected that the successful candidate has a background in computer science, especially software engineering or co-design/participatory design.

The PostDoc position is open from October 1, 2022 and runs for 18 months.
The project is led by Yvonne Dittrich, Professor in Software Engineering.
