The field of science and technology studies has grown in the Nordic countries for quite some time. An influx of new scholars has energized the field, which at the same time has benefitted from the creation of new STS hubs in the shape of centers, research groups and research collaborations. Simultaneously, the content of STS is incessantly renewed as scholars launch new methodological and theoretical experiments, or ‘simply’ attempt to keep up with the latest innovations and controversies in the nexus between science, technology and society. Nordic STS scholars thus have a lot to talk about.

In 2013, the TIK Centre took the initiative of organizing the first Nordic STS conference, as a new regional meeting space for STS. The conference was a success professionally as well as socially, and the scientific committee representing all Nordic countries decided to work for a bi-annual Nordic STS conference. The conference in Copenhagen, that we hereby announce, is the second one in line.

The purpose of the conference is to provide a regional forum that stimulates scientific exchanges and informal networking between STS scholars in the Nordic countries. We encourage young as well as established researchers to participate, and we welcome participants from well-established as well as emerging STS research groups and environments.

The scientific committee of the conference hereby issues both a call for papers and a call for panels. Besides the option of submitting an abstract for a single paper, we invite participants to submit proposals for panels. Panels may indicate specific thematic areas or they may propose particular problems or challenges that they invite participants to engage with. Panels that include scholars from more than one Nordic country are particularly encouraged. In general, this call is an “open” one: we welcome papers from all areas within STS scholarship. Single paper abstracts should be no longer than 300 words and contain name(s) and institutional affiliation(s) of the author(s). Proposals for panels (3-4 papers) should be short (no longer than 300 words) and should contain information about each of the papers to be presented as well as names and institutional affiliations of the presenters and organisers. Also, please note that proposed panels may include vacant slots for additional papers. The scientific committee can help in identifying potential participants from other Nordic countries.

Abstracts for panels should be submitted no later than 2 February 2015. Accepted panels will be notified no later than 9 February and announced on this homepage.

Abstracts for papers — related or unrelated to panels — should be submitted no later than 2 March 2015. Accepted papers will be notified no later than 6 April 2015.

Proposals for panels and papers should be sent to: nordicstsconference@gmail.com

The conference is organized by the Techno-Anthropology Research Group at Aalborg University in collaboration with the Danish Association for Science and Technology Studies (DASTS).
